So. Last Saturday, I was taking a shower, and I had my arm lifted up above my head. My mom, her sister, and I all sometimes get dizzy when we do this, and I did then. Get dizzy, that is. I suspect it was a combination of being behind on sleep, having not eaten all day as a result of sleeping in AND taking a long nap after, the steam, lifting my arm, and having my head ducked down to see what I was doing.
Anyway, whether I pinched a nerve, restricted a pressure point, or WHATever, I got dizzy. Stuck my head out of the curtain to get some cool air, which helped some, so I ducked back into the shower to continue with what I was doing. Lifted my arm again, and I passed out.
Woke up on the floor of the shower, facing the drain, with the water still going, put a hand to my head, saw the drain . . . well, let's just say it suddenly brought the movie "Psycho" VERY quickly to mind, and stood up. Passed out again. Idiot. -_-
Woke up on the floor of the shower. Again. Managed to crawl out to the outer half of the stall and yell for help once. Tried to sit up, passed out. AGAIN.
Finally woke up for real, a vague ache in the back of my head being the only reassurance I dared get that what had happened had actually happened. I yelled for help until another girl (on her way to get her own shower) came into the bathroom and heard me. I got her to stay outside while I put on my pjs, then opened the door and got her to take a look at the back of my head. . . . She said it wasn't pretty.
She went to get the front desk to call the paramedics, my wing's RA came in to reassure me, and, within a not-too-long period of time, I was in a t-shirt and jeans over my pjs and in the back of an ambulance on my way to the local hospital.
The whole experience is kind of half-real, half-surreal in my mind. After getting over going into shock initially, it wasn't too bad, and the back of my head didn't hurt too badly. It turns out, while I had previously believed I'd hit the back left of my head on the tile in the shower, I had actually struck the handle/tap/faucet/thing on the wall, giving me a lovely cross-shaped scar.
The doc gave me a CAT scan, numbed me up, gave me fifteen staples and a prescription for Lortab in case of severe pain, and sent me home. No lasting damage, apparently, and I now get to look like a mummy! I have pics of Mummy!Me and of my wound, if anyone would like to see them. The latter, I warn, is rather gruesome, and so will only be released on request. I'm due to get the staples out this Saturday, and have not yet been in enough pain to warrant the use of the Lortab. Though it does sound like fun to be on . . . >.>
